Phu Khanna Great Wall

The Phu Khanna Great Wall is a mysterious historical tourist attraction and natural phenomenon, located along National Route 13 South, about 10 kilometers north of Thakhek town in Khammouane Province, extending continuously toward Kok Hai village and Phu Khanna.

The stone wall features massive sandstone slabs standing majestically toward the sky, with a thickness of about 1 meter and heights ranging from 10 to 20 meters in some sections. According to local legend, it is believed to have been built since the Sikhottabong Empire era by humans or giant mythical beings to serve as a city wall, carrying down ancient beliefs through generations. Meanwhile, scholars and geologists explain that it is actually sandstone outcrops (of the Phu Phan Formation) positioned vertically relative to the ground, caused by past tectonic movements and fault lines. Over hundreds of years of natural erosion, regular fractures formed, making it look as though giant stones were neatly stacked by human hands into a massive wall.

Currently, it is being developed as a rest stop and a connector for tourist routes. It has created a unique selling point filled with excitement and mystery, attracting adventure seekers, photography enthusiasts looking for unique angles, and geologists for further study.
